Karamba

Karamba is located on the southwest coast of Zanzibar island in Tanzania.

Set on rocks above one end of the village beach, this little Spanish operated place is one of the more interesting at this relatively low price level.

Given that one should not be expecting the highest levels of build or service, Karamba is actually a pleasant little spot. The local staff are very natural and easy-going, which can delight or irritate depending on the circumstances.

Simple open-sided public areas contain bar, lounge and restaurant and there is a nice if rather small pool also set up above the ocean. Rooms range from the original small simple bandas to the much more upscale two-storey suites.

We tend to recommend Karamba in combination with other good guesthouses such as Matemwe Beach or Pongwe Beach, in order to combine the classic east coast beaches with this rather less obvious southwest corner
